ENVIRONMENTAL POLICY AND GOVERNANCE Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2250 words

Natural POLICY AND GOVERNANCE - Essay Example This outcomes in authoritative governmental issues which might be positive or negative for the organization relying upon the aim of those wading into controversy. Some play a reasonable game and to support the association while others wade into controversy to accomplish individual closures. The inquiry that asks answers in this manner, is; is it conceivable or attractive to dispense with authoritative legislative issues? In this exposition, I will contend that it is beyond the realm of imagination to expect to wipe out hierarchical governmental issues as long as there are assets to be shared and it isn't even attractive to do as such as it underpins organization development. Hierarchical legislative issues is characterized by Griffin and Moorhead (2013: 387) as â€Å"the exercises completed by individuals to procure, upgrade and use power and different assets to acquire wanted results in a circumstance where there is vulnerability or disagreement.† Power is exceptionally fundamental in associations as it figures out who gets what, when and how and as such it isn't unordinary to discover representatives particularly directors battling for power in order to pick up control (Gilmore and Williams 2013: 80). Some of the time power is accomplished by the insignificant reality of a people position in the association (authentic, coercive and reward power) henceforth people with great influence utilize all way to hold it or increase it by rising to a place of power. This involves participating in political conduct to accomplish such closures particularly on the off chance that they feel their position is compromised. This political conduct (Cavanaugh, Mobe rg and Velasques 1981: 368) can be utilized for moral or dishonest purposes and ought to be dodged on the off chance that it doesn't regard the privileges of every single influenced party, doesn't regard standards of equity and doesn't prompt productive improvement of fulfillment of interests inside and outside association. In spite of the fact that it might be unscrupulous, Griffin and Moorhead (2013: 388) contend that attempting to dispose of political conduct will only from time to time, if at any point, work. Rather, this may build the conduct due to coming about vulnerability and uncertainty. They contend that governmental issues may give conceivable

Antibiotics And Children Essays - Medicine, Health,

Anti-microbials And Children A significant issue concerning the offspring of today is the overabundance endorsing of anti-toxins and the risks that are being made. Regular, an ever increasing number of youngsters are being endorsed any simple answer for an intense issue. There is a steady push from pharmaceutical organizations, guardians, and gigantic showcasing organizations to attempt the following anti-microbial cure, yet as we look towards the future and the illnesses that can be made by this convenient solution, we should direct to our concentration toward choices cures. What is so horrendous about this circumstance is that the most dire outcome imaginable of the impacts of the mass portions of anti-toxins they ingest is an untreatable bacterium that is resistant to the medicines we know about. That may not sound so terrible until you consider the quantity of youngsters around the globe that could kick the bucket from this bacterium. It would most certainly be a disastrous occasion if a segment of the world's populace at that ahead of schedule of an age were to be eradicated. It would be a human-actuated bubonic plague of the twenty-first century and it is truly not that a long way from turning into a reality. In an examination done in 1992, there were more than sixty million diverse oral anti-microbial remedies were providing for individuals younger than fifteen years of age (Napoli). The breadth of anti-microbial choices combined with their boundless use in pediatric patients feature the significance of drug specialists having an intensive commonality with pediatric anti-toxin treatment. Likewise, issues may emerge in rewarding kids younger than two in view of their juvenile resistant framework, absence of Food and Drug Administration (FDA) endorsement for pediatric utilization of numerous anti-infection agents and restricted information supporting treatment courses of under ten days (Napoli). Additionally, an additional complexity of the treatment of the patient is the eagerness, capacity to follow the routine, and the comprehension of the significance of finishing the treatment. Prior to filling the medicine for the fitting prescription, doctors should know about basic pediatric diseases and their suggested anti-microbial treatment. It is essential to recall that most upper respiratory diseases are viral and that anti-toxins would be pointless in the endeavor to treat such a contamination (Berger). This will just reinforce the opposition of bacterial pathogens, restricting the adequacy of the accessible anti-toxin medicines. Regular pediatric contaminations incorporate otitis media (OM), skin and skin-structure diseases, pharyngitis, bronchitis and urinary tract contaminations (UTIs) (Napoli). Most anti-infection solutions that are given every year go to kids younger than six. This is likewise the age bunch that is generally powerless to the high-opposition strain of microscopic organisms (Drugs and Biotech). As of late, microbes that ordinarily contaminate kids and grown-ups (like streptococcus pneumonia and staph) have gotten logically impervious to anti-infection agents (Napoli). Far reaching, unpredictable utilization of anti-toxins has made exceptionally safe microscopic organisms. A few kids who could typically be treated with a solitary course of anti-infection agents must be treated with at least two courses. Some who could have been recently rewarded with an oral anti-toxin at home currently must be admitted to clinics and rewarded with intravenous anti-infection agents (More Drugs ?). Diseases with anti-microbial safe microscopic organisms are substantially more typical in high salary, white, rural youngsters younger than 6, who have gotten an anti-toxin over the most recent three months and go to childcare (More Drugs ?). These youngsters are considerably more liable to visit their primary care physician and are at more serious danger of accepting an anti-infection than populaces that are therapeutically underserved (Drugs and Biotech). As expressed previously, anti-toxins are compelling just in bacterial diseases and not in viral contaminations. On the off chance that you take one hundred youngsters with a fever, on normal ninety of them will have a viral disease and ten of them a bacterial one (Berger). Shockingly, anti-toxins will never really diminish the indications or to hurry the goals of the viral diseases. The issue could be effortlessly illuminated if the specialists would simply disclose this to the guardians as opposed to letting them push for an ever increasing number of anti-microbials (More Drugs ?). Indeed, examines show that specialists are bound to recommend an anti-toxin when the parent pushes for that tranquilize. Guardians, then again, state that specialists are not setting aside the effort to clarify when youngsters

The Assassination of Malcolm X

The Assassination of Malcolm X Subsequent to going through a year as a pursued man, Malcolm X was shot and executed during a gathering of the Organization of Afro-American Unity (OAAU) at the Audubon Ballroom in Harlem, New York, on February 21, 1965. The aggressors, in any event three in number, were individuals from the dark Muslim gathering the Nation of Islam, the gathering with which Malcolm X had been an unmistakable priest for a long time before he split with them in March 1964. Precisely who shot Malcolm X has been fervently bantered throughout the decades. One man, Talmage Hayer, was captured at the scene and was unquestionably a shooter. Two other men were captured and condemned yet were in all probability wrongly denounced. The disarray over the personality of the shooters aggravates the topic of why Malcolm X was killed and has prompted a wide scope of fear inspired notions. Turning out to be Malcolm X Malcolm X was conceived Malcolm Little in 1925. After his dad was mercilessly killed, his home life unwound and he was before long selling drugs and engaged with insignificant violations. In 1946, 20-year-old Malcolm X was captured and condemned to ten years in jail. It was in jail that Malcolm X found out about the Nation of Islam (NOI) and started composing day by day letters to the NOI’s pioneer, Elijah Muhammad, known as the â€Å"Messenger of Allah.† Malcolm X, the name he gained from the NOI, was discharged from jail in 1952. He immediately ascended the positions of the NOI, turning into the clergyman of the huge Temple Number Seven in Harlem. For a long time, Malcolm X stayed an unmistakable, candid individual from the NOI, making contention the country over with his talk. Be that as it may, the nearby ties between Malcolm X and Muhammad started to whither in 1963. Breaking With the NOI Strains immediately raised between Malcolm X and Muhammad, with the last fracture happening on December 4, 1963. The whole country was grieving the ongoing passing of President John F. Kennedy when Malcolm X openly offered the tactless comment that JFK’s passing was as â€Å"chickens returning home to roost.† accordingly, Muhammad requested Malcolm X to be suspended from the NOI for 90 days. After the finish of the suspension, on March 8, 1964, Malcolm X officially left the NOI. Malcolm X had gotten disappointed with the NOI thus after he left, he made his own dark Muslim gathering, the Organization of Afro-American Unity (OAAU). Muhammad and the remainder of the NOI siblings were not satisfied that Malcolm X had made what they saw as a contending association an association that might pull an enormous gathering of individuals from the NOI. Malcolm X additionally had been a confided in individual from the inward hover of the NOI and knew numerous privileged insights that might crush the NOI whenever uncovered to general society. The entirety of this made Malcolm X a risky man. To ruin Malcolm X, Muhammad and the NOI started a slanderous attack against Malcolm X, considering him the â€Å"chief hypocrite.† To safeguard himself, Malcolm X uncovered data about Muhammad’s acts of unfaithfulness with six of his secretaries, with whom he had ill-conceived kids. Malcolm X had trusted this disclosure would make the NOI ease off; rather, it simply caused him to appear to be considerably progressively hazardous. A Hunted Man Articles in the NOI’s paper, Muhammad Speaks, turned out to be progressively horrendous. In December 1964, one article got near calling for Malcolm X’s death, Just the individuals who wish to be directed to heck, or to their fate, will follow Malcolm. The pass on is set, and Malcolm will not get away, particularly after such malicious, stupid discussion about his advocate [Elijah Muhammad] in attempting to deny him of the perfect wonder which Allah has offered to him. Such a man as Malcolm is deserving of death, and would have met with death on the off chance that it had not been for Muhammad’s trust in Allah for triumph over the foes. Numerous individuals from the NOI accepted the message was clear: Malcolm X must be slaughtered. During the year after Malcolm X had left the NOI, there had been a few death endeavors on his life, in New York, Boston, Chicago, and Los Angeles. On February 14, 1965, only seven days before his death, obscure attackers firebombed Malcolm X’s house while he and his family were sleeping inside. Fortunately, all had the option to get away from safe. These assaults made it self-evident Malcolm X was a pursued man. It was wearing him out. As he disclosed to Alex Haley only days before his death, â€Å"Haley, my nerves are shot, my brain’s tired.† The Assassination On the morning of Sunday, February 21, 1965, Malcolm X woke up in his twelfth floor lodging at the Hilton Hotel in New York. Around 1 p.m., he settled up with the lodging and set out toward the Audubon Ballroom, where he was to talk at a gathering of his OAAU. He stopped his blue Oldsmobile about 20 streets away, which appears to be astounding for somebody who was being pursued. At the point when he showed up at the Audubon Ballroom, he headed behind the stage. He was pushed and it was starting to appear. He lashed out at a few people, yelling furiously. This was bizarre for him. At the point when the OAAU meeting was to begin, Benjamin Goodman went out in front of an audience to talk first. He was to represent about a thirty minutes, heating up the horde of around 400 preceding Malcolm X was to talk. At that point it was Malcolm X’s turn. He ventured up to the stage and remained behind a wooden platform. After he gave the customary Muslim welcome, â€Å"As-salaam alaikum,† and got the reaction, a frenzy started in the group. A man had stood up, yelling that a man close to him had attempted to pick-pocket him. Malcolm X’s protectors left the stage region to go manage the circumstance. This left Malcolm unprotected on the stage. Malcolm X avoided away from the platform, saying â€Å"Let’s be cool, brothers.† It was then that a man stood up close to the front of the group, pulled out a sawed-off shotgun from underneath his channel coat and shot at Malcolm X. The impact from the shotgun made Malcolm X fall in reverse, over certain seats. The man with the shotgun discharged once more. At that point, two other men hurried the stage, discharging a Luger and a .45 programmed gun at Malcolm X, hitting for the most part his legs. The clamor from the shots, the savagery that had recently been submitted, and a smoke bomb that had been set off in the back, all additional to the confusion. As once huge mob, the crowd attempted to get away. The professional killers utilized this disarray to further their potential benefit as they mixed into the group everything except one got away. The person who didn't escape was Talmage â€Å"Tommy† Hayer (here and there called Hagan). Hayer had been shot in the leg by one of Malcolm X’s guardians as he was attempting to get away. Once outside, the group understood that Hayer was one of the men who had quite recently killed Malcolm X and the horde began to assault Hayer. Fortunately, a police officer happened to stroll by, spared Hayer, and figured out how to get him into the rear of a squad car. During the commotion, a few of Malcolm X’s companions hurried to the phase to attempt to support him. Regardless of their endeavors, Malcolm X was excessively far gone. Malcolm X’s spouse, Betty Shabazz, had been in the live with their four girls that day. She approached her better half, yelling, â€Å"They are slaughtering my husband!† Malcolm X was put on a cot and conveyed over the road to the Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center. Specialists attempted to restore Malcolm X by opening up his chest and rubbing his heart, yet their endeavor was ineffective. The Funeral Malcolm X’s body was cleaned, made respectable, and wearing a suit with the goal that the general population could see his remaining parts at the Unity Funeral Home in Harlem. From Monday through Friday (February 22 to 26), long queues of individuals held back to get a last look at the fallen pioneer. Notwithstanding the various bomb dangers that every now and again shut down the review, roughly 30,000 individuals endured. At the point when the survey was finished, Malcolm X’s garments were changed into the conventional, Islamic, white cover. The burial service was hung on Saturday, February 27 at the Faith Temple Church of God, where Malcolm X’s companion, on-screen character Ossie Davis, gave the commendation. At that point Malcolm X’s body was taken to the Ferncliff Cemetery, where he was covered under his Islamic name, El-Hajj Malik El-Shabazz. The Trial The open needed Malcolm X’s professional killers got and the police conveyed. Tommy Hayer was clearly the first captured and there was solid proof against him. He had been arrested at the scene, a .45 cartridge was found in his pocket, and his unique mark was found on the smoke bomb. The police discovered two different suspects by capturing men who had been associated with another shooting of a NOI ex-part. The issue was that there was no physical proof tying these two men, Thomas 15X Johnson and Norman 3X Butler, to the death. The police had just observers that dubiously recollected that them being there. Notwithstanding the frail proof against Johnson and Butler, the preliminary of every one of the three litigants started on January 25, 1966. With the proof mounting against him, Hayer stood up on February 28 and expressed that Johnson and Butler were guiltless. This disclosure stunned everybody in the court and it was muddled at the time whether the two truly were blameless or whether Hayer was simply attempting to get his co-plotters free. With Hayer reluctant to uncover the names of the genuine professional killers, the jury at last accepted the last hypothesis. Each of the three men were seen as blameworthy of first-degree murder on March 10, 1966, and were condemned to life in jail. Who Really Killed Malcolm X? The preliminary did little to explain what truly occurred in the Audubon Ballroom that day. Nor did it uncover

Incongruity in â€Å"The Cask of Amontillado† In the short story, â€Å"The Cask of Amontillado† by Edgar Allan Poe, Poe utilizes two sorts of incongruity, sensational and verbal. Emotional incongruity is the point at which the peruser sees something that a character in the story doesn't. Poe utilizes this sort of incongruity in the character Fortunato. Verbal incongruity is the point at which the character says a certain something and means something different. This kind of incongruity can be perceived in the explanations that the characters, Fortunato and Montresor, state to each other. The name of the character, Fortunato holds emotional incongruity inside itself. The name Fortunato takes after the word blessed. In this story, the character Fortunato is definitely not lucky. Toward the start, Fortunato accepts that he is blessed to have a companion, Montresor, who accepts to have discovered a funnel of Amontillado. In any case, at long last Fortunato discovers that he has been deceived and is covered alive. African American Writers Essays - Reconstruction Era,

African American Writers The African-American Community has been honored with a large number of researchers. Two of those researchers incorporate Booker T. Washington and W.E.B. Du bois. Both of these men, had a dream for African-Americans. They needed to see the progression of their race of individuals. These extraordinary pioneers simply had unique perspectives with regards to how this ought to be practiced. Mr. Washington's perspectives depend on his very own understanding and comprehension of legislative issues. Mr. Du bois' perspectives originated from his insight into the significance of instruction and its capacity to separate hindrances of shading. Washington and Du bois needed to see the headway of the African-American individuals. The inquiry was The secret might they be able to progress? There is a twelve-year age distinction among the two respectable men. I could see the distinction that 10 years could make in the outlooks of the two respectable men. Washington is the senior of the two. He was separated of the subjection framework not just a result of it. He was a slave who was liberated. A man without neither a history, nor a last name to consider his own. Du bois was naturally introduced to an arrangement of opportunity. He never experienced having an ace or the absence of opportunity to move about however he wanted. He appeared on the scene and saw issues. He didn't see the long way that had been headed out to come to the heart of the matter that they were at as of now. In this manner these men saw various methods of achieving their objectives as a race. In Booker T. Washington's collection of memoirs Up From Slavery , he imparts to the peruser a bounty of data with regards to how he turned into the man he was. He was conceived on a manor in Franklin County, Virginia. At the soonest snapshots of his life, he was a worker, cleaning the yards, conveying water, and taking corn to the plants. Booker T. Washington discusses the weight of opportunity. He discusses the perspectives of the slaves towards their lords after liberation. At the point when the slaves learned they were free there was an inclination of fervor, trailed by one of the truth that they were currently answerable for accommodating their families, cover, food, apparel and a superior lifestyle. He discusses the association and bond that they kept on sharing, as the slaves started to flourish and the ace and his family started to endure. Washington recalls his new life in West Virginia. The part where is instruction was set aside for later because of a need of salary to help his family. Be that as it may, he likewise recalls his will and assurance to increase training at any expense. This brought about him going to class around evening time and voyaging a few miles so as to increase legitimate instruction. Washington in the long run increased an instruction at Hampton University, and proceeded to educate. He was likewise head of Tuskegee University. Mr. Washington's beneficial experience's instructed him that everything has a period and a spot. He portrayed a kid in a grimy live with torn and worn out garments, perusing a French book. He accepted that man must have abilities and ought to have the option to accommodate himself and his family. He was discussing monetary opportunity. He was talking about working with white individuals, to attempt to improve a spot for the two races. From various perspectives, I think he felt it was increasingly essential to have food on your table as opposed to books in your grasp. Mr. Washington realized that all together for African-Americans to flourish, whites would must be included. All together for a man to get up off the ground he should first persuade the man holding him down to take his foot off his throat. Mr. W.E.B. Du bois was in reality a researcher and progressive. He was conceived in Great Barrington, Massachusetts. He was an alum of Fisk University and the primary Black to get a doctoral qualification from Harvard University. Du Bois' investigation into the chronicled and sociological states of dark Americans made him the most persuasive dark scholarly of his time. His book The Souls of Black Folk written in 1903 is an incredible assortment of papers, in which Du Bois portrays the endeavors of African-Americans to accommodate their African legacy with their pride in being U.S. residents. In this book he additionally fought that Washington's push for African-Americans to give up political quality and the mission for social equality briefly for the structure of riches wasn't right. Du bois accepted that he

Inscriptions Boon or Blot

Inscriptions Boon or Blot I love to shop for used books. One of my favorite finds in the last couple of years was copies of Ex Libris  and Rereadings  by Anne Fadiman, together in one store. Id been looking for both books for some time, always finding a lone copy of Ex Libris, but never Rereadings. I like things to match, so it became this absurd quest to find both books at the same used bookstore (I know now theres a third book in this beautiful little trio, but at the time I missed the memo). The day I found both books together was a day for celebration. I bought both, triumphantly, and then proceeded to not read them.  Last week, after writing about memoirs about books, I pulled my copy of  Ex Libris  off the shelf to finally, finally read. When I opened it I noticed, for the first time, the inscription written on the dedication page in purple ink: June, 2003 Education is the ability to listen to almost anything without losing your temper or your confidence. Robert Frost Kim Thanks for a great school year! M.H. What are the chances of finding a book with an inscription to a person with my own name? Id guess not high, but Im a reader, not a statistician. Coincidentally (or, perhaps not), Fadiman has an essay in Ex Libris  about inscriptions in books Words on a Flyleaf.  For Fadiman (and myself), inscriptions can be a blessing or a curse: Unlike the card that accompanies, say, a sweater, from which it is soon likely to part, a book and its inscription are permanently wedded. This can be either a boon or a blot. On the plus side, coming across an inscription either in a book I  received as a gift or one I plucked randomly off the shelf at a used bookstore always makes me smile. Particularly if they are, like the inscription I found in Ex Libris, heartfelt and slightly verbose. I always wonder who the writer and  receiver  were. It seems clear that Kim was a teacher or administrator, but who is M.H.? A fellow teacher? A student? A friend who spent the year listening to Kim complain or exclaim about her students? Its hard to know, but you have to admire M.H. for quoting Robert Frost. Yet despite how much I love finding inscriptions, I never write them in the books I give. Im a notorious book pusher at holidays, but writing an inscription seems  presumptuous. Its not my place to write on the pages of someone elses book before they get the chance to read it. Plus, what if its a book theyve already read? A book they dont want to read?  A book they want to pass on to someone else? How will they return or exchange or pass on that book if Ive already scribbled on the first page? More importantly, an inscription gives a book weight entirely outside how the reader will feel after reading it. A book suddenly has meaning above and beyond, I think youd really like this story. It has significance tied to a date or time or relationship that makes the book hard to part with whether you want to keep it or not. I dont want to put that sort of pressure into the gift of a book.  After all, how would M.H. feel if he/she knew Kim gave away the copy of Ex Libris  that he/she bought and signed? If that Kim were me, Id hate to find out.

A three year old child starts to become more independent, often wanting to do things without intervention from adults. Children often experience childcare for the first time from the age of three and whilst many adapt with little difficulty, it can be a heart-wrenching experience for others. It is essential that the child is made to feel that he/ she belongs, is wanted, and is appreciated in their new environment and children need to be supported and encouraged to develop social bonds and positive relationships with peers and with adults. The transition between home and childcare should be done in stages and in partnership with the childs family. A key-worker should be assigned to each child. A nursery should provide for enough indoor and outdoor room for the children to be able to refine their gross motor skills. Play areas should be adequately stocked with swings, slides and monkey bars, tricycles as well as child size tunnels and playhouses. This allows the children to play in the sun to help make vitamin D, however, this play must be controlled, as too much exposure to the sunrays can be harmful. John Maynard Keynes Contribution to the Theories of...

Macro Questions Part I Describe John Maynard Keynes contribution to the theories of Macroeconomics. Why was he such an important economist? Discuss the theories of two other 20th century economists who made a significant contribution to the study of economics. John Maynard Keynes is one of the founding fathers of the modern economic thought. So influential was John Maynard Keynes in the middle third of the twentieth century that an entire school of modern thought bears his name Keynesian Economics (Library of Economics and Liberty, N.d.). He was a British economist who lived from1883-1946 and who developed the theory that increasing government deficits stimulate a sluggish economy, was long the guiding light of liberal economists (Skidelsky, 2008). His work primarily discredited laissez-faire economics because he was able to show that the government did and could serve a role in helping to guide the economy of a country. A supporter of Keynesian economics believes it is the governments job to smooth out the bumps in business cycles. Intervention would come in the form of government spending and tax breaks in order to stimulate the economy, and government spending cuts and tax hikes in good times, in order to curb inflation (Investopedia, N.d.). In fact, Ben Bernanke the current chairman of the federal reserve helped to build off of Keynes work with a model he refers to as New Keynesian economics, Though Bernanke is close to retirement, he would have likely beenShow MoreRelatedClassical and Neoclassical Economists: Adam Smith and John Maynard Keynes1289 Words   |  6 PagesIn order to understand how economics really work in today’s age we must think about how those economic ideas, revolutionary theories of many econom ists, that helped to shape the economic structure as we know it now, through many individuals and school of economic though that has existed through the ages. Architectural Work Place Designs and Work Behaviors for Apple

Question: Discuss about theArchitectural Work Place Designs and Work Behaviors for Apple. Answer: Introduction In recent years the area of architectural design and use of technology is influencing work designs and employee behaviors. Buildings are constructed in a way that it pushes employees to work towards new limits. Example of such buildings is that of Apple Park, a campus that houses 12000 staff with a vast circular building surrounded with a park, and Nvidia a two storey building. Apple Park is located in Cupertino with a type of Silicon Valleys campuses which makes it to be an emblem of the latest US technology industry craze. Nvidia a chipmaker on the other hand has a two storey office with spaces in its heart that do not allow collisions and interactions of the users (Ording Louch 2017, p.45). Nvidia design represents a Utopia of a wide flat across campuses instead of making users split across vertical floors. Every employee in Apple and Nvidia have own work stations (hot desks) which allows them to gather and huddle when working for a project. The use of hot desks is more cost effe ctive and more flexible. Motivation behind use of utopia flat design campuses and hot desks is on revenue generation originating from employees working collaboratively (Myerson, Bichard 2016, p.24). Several studies findings have justified the use of hot desks as appropriate for working stations. A research conducted by Leesman a workplace research group established that 70% of employees in activity-based workplaces like to huddle in a single desk. That contrasts with the aim of using activity-based work place which was designed for them to move from a zone to another during a working day. Gensler, the architectural firm for Nvidia new building justified in their finding that employees require work stations with less privacy, more collaborations and limited space for working. That is provided by the use of hot desks which is more relevant to what the employees need. The drawback of using hot desks is that it may not be suitable for certain professional works requiring individual efforts instead of collaborations (Ording Louch 2017, p.45). Other jobs require individuals to focus towards work and any migration or open spaces would cause distractions. Changes in technology continue to erode work patterns and it is then appropriate if only they do not re-engineer the behavior of the users. Research questions How does architectural technology craze contribute to redesign of work spaces? What are the factors contributing to the recent architectural technology craze in work spaces? Which office space design configuration is most appropriate for employee working behaviors? What are the challenges facing architectural technology in redesigning work spaces? Literature review Literature review of the article is based on the research questions and will be derived from empirical facts from secondary sources of data. Architectural technologies craze and redesign of work spaces There is emerging craze in architectural technologies for work related spaces. Designers and architects are now tasked to redesign work spaces that innovative. They are focused on achieving goals for creating new working spaces that revolve building of communities, encourage work encounters, and could enhance collaborations. The building sector in US and across the world is developing in a rapid speed there is need to adhere to strict building and construction codes. Differential building of co-working spaces as emerged as one of the fast growing areas in the building sector. Architectures and designers are competing to provide the best office structures (Myerson, Bichard 2016, p.24) Innovation spaces in architectural designs are signs of demographic, economic and cultural forces influencing office structures developments. The dynamic changes in innovation are transforming office structures into flexible locales, open enough to host different professionals and disciplines. Changes in demographics in the work place are the leading cause of changes in office structures designs. Designers are tasked with innovative ways to ensure different workers needs are met for the benefit of the institution (Chappell Dunn 2015, p.45). Factors contributing to the recent architectural technology craze in work spaces The architectural work spaces have changed over the last 10 years due to different reasons. The first reason comes from convergent sharing of ideas and opinions from different sectorial areas. Different disciplines and professionals are currently contributing to the latest architectural building designs. Committees are formed from different sectors among them architecture personnel to develop suitable work spaces for their clients. Today, external sources for example the RD laboratories are producing commercialized architectural designs which they sell to different clients. The second factor is that now days architects and designers are competing to deliver competitive and breathtaking designs for their clients. Innovative use of technology currently contributes to 80% of the emerging trends in architectural technology craze in developing work spaces (Latham 2016, p.45) The third factor emerges from those using the work space democratically contributing significantly to current design. Architectural designs are distancing from dictation from architects and leaders of the organization (Giachetti 2016, p.23). The users are given opportunity to state the kind of design they expect to have for their work spaces. It has changed how employees are empowered and elevated to define the nature of work space that supports their ambitions and needs (Lifschutz 2017, p.34). The current architectural designs have become a cutting edge in integrating employee and organizational cultures, ambitions in supporting work space designs that are mutually suitable. Architectural work space configurations and employee working behaviors Private offices are examples of office space designs that architectures design for office use. Private office workplaces offer the largest amount of security of all office conditions. Private offices workplaces likewise furnish representatives with spots to privately hold meetings and have their own particular conferences with colleagues. In many work environments, private office workplaces exist however restricted to abnormal state administrations. It is very costly to have a private office spaces for each worker (Deasy, Newell, Mware 2015, p.45). In any case, offering private office workspaces for representatives to share can go far in consuming resources. As per The Washington Post, around 70 percent of U.S. workplaces take after the open office organize with no or little segments. The beginning of this office space designs absolutely originated from the technology organizations in Silicon Valley, which gloat that open office designs offer unparalleled connection and straightforwardness (Sailer, Pomeroy Haslem 2015, p.253). What started on the West Coast spread the nation over and into organizations in all businesses. While these office floor designs help expand organization space at bring down costs, they can contribute significantly to profitability. The cubicles are example of office space designs configurations where smaller partitions are created to lessen the open spaces created in an open layout office. It is a cost effective method of creating offices and architecturally they were developed from open office plan layouts. They possess numerous drawbacks; employees under the cubicles noise is still a concern, visual distractions is another problem, and another problem is normal movement can be a major disruptions (Hatch 2017, p.132). Certain cubicles are made more attractive by designing meeting points for the employees to breakdown the monotony of open cubicles. Co-working space is a type office space designs configurations applied by architectures. The designs bring diverse groups of workers, professionals in a shared environment. A study by Harvard review shows that employees in co-working spaces are successful than those found in regular offices. The co-working spaces are available to employees at all times (Ching, Binggeli 2018 p.45). They contain numerous working spaces that employees can share tables, resources and share ideas effectively. Challenges facing architectural technology in redesigning work spaces The changing social behaviors and organizational intentions has become a challenge that is contributing to how work space is designed. Architects and designs are largely affected because they need to follow social patterns which are dynamic. Balancing between innovation and design flexibility is another challenge for architects and designers. Organizations are focused on developing work spaces that are flexible to the current and future needs which is challenging. Flexibility requires thinking through all aspects of design, available resources, technology used, current and future needs. The demand for flexibility has made architectural technology in development of work spaces a complex endeavor (Wyoma VanDuinkerken Karen MacDonald 2013, p.248). The changing work pattern and policies for organizations is another challenge to architects and designers. The rate in which changes are done in organization and global changes makes organizations to review their designs for work spaces. A number of architects are complaining over the highly curtailed life of architectural technology designs for work stations. Another challenge is that in collaborative architectural technology designs for work spaces require sectors to communicate effectively on tacit information (Duffy, Cave Worthington 2016, p.45). But the information is found to be undocumented, unstructured, and more experiential that require rich communication techniques. The state and government policies that change town mapping and designs contribute to reshuffling of work space, changing of designs and arrangement of work spaces becomes an occasional challenge for architectural technology designers. The Mind-Brain Problem Concerning Dualism And Materialism Essays

The Mind-Brain Problem Concerning Dualism And Materialism The Mind-Brain Problem Concerning Dualism and Materialism I am faced with the philosophical task of defending either dualism or materialism, depending on which one is most attractive to me. So either I support the theory of dualism, which is the belief that there is both a physical and a spiritual state, or I believe in materialism, which is the belief that everything that exists is material or physical. Although I believe materialism to be easier to prove, I find dualism more attractive to believe. Throughout the following, I will attempt to build a case for the theory of dualism giving insights both documented and personal. I will also shed light on the theory of materialism and the proofs that support this theory; showing that although materialism has a strong argument, essentially, it the less attractive of the two. What I find most appealing about dualism is the belief in the soul and body, spirit and matter. Although materialism is a valid theory scientifically and philosophically, I find dualism to cover a wider spectrum of possibilities. I do not believe that our body and our thoughts and everything that surrounds us are a result of the physical. Materialism removes any problems of relatedness between mind and body by eliminating the spiritual altogether. But as I will show, materialism might have the upper hand in proof but it cannot fulfill or support my need for the spiritual like dualism can. Dualism supports the possibility that when a person dies, their body might die but their soul continues. It allows one to at least consider this notion along with many others of the spiritual realm. The existence of God, miracles, and unexplained phenomena are just a few things dualism supports. I believe it is ignorant of a person to support materialism just because scientifically it makes more sense. So many people believe in some form of religion or God. Then why would it be illogical to find faith in something you cannot see and that cannot be proven, but there is an instinctive feeling that the possibility exists. For me, there is a great possibility for both a physical and spiritual realm and even though I take dualism on blind faith, I take it because my life makes more sense. With dualism, the existence of God seems possible and death does not seem so final, love seems more special and life seems to have more meaning. Materialism suggests to me that our bodies, our thoughts a re a type of mechanical function, whereas dualism gives me a sense of meaning in my life. There are many textbook arguments against materialism: the divisibility argument, the introspection argument, and the argument for measurement: The Divisibility Argument 1. My body, which includes my brain, is divisible. 2. (a) I cannot conceive of my mind as divisible. (b) I cannot conceive of my individual mental states as divisible, either. 3. Therefore, my mind is distinct from any part of my body. The Introspection Argument 1. Mental states are knowable through introspection. 2. Brain states are not knowable through introspection. 3. Therefore, mental sates are not brain states. Argument for Measurement 1. Brain states can be located and measured. 2. Mental states cannot be located and measured. 3. Therefore, by Leibnizs Law brain states are not mental states. All three of these arguments dispute materialisms claim that brain states and mental states go hand in hand. The divisibility argument shows that the brain is divisible but not the mind. The introspection argument shows that the mind is knowable through introspection, whereas the brain is not. The argument for measurement shows that brain states can be located and measured, but mental states cannot be. Materialism also violates Leibnizs Law: If an object or process x is identical with an object or process y, then x and y have all the same properties. That is, if x and y do not have the same properties, then x and y are not identical. So if the brain states are x and the mental states are y and the two are not identical as shown through the previous three arguments, then materialism violates Leibnizs Law. From an objective point of view I can see how someone would believe in materialism, but for me, dualism has

Privacy and Freedom essays

Privacy and Freedom essays The Fourth Amendment search and seizure is mainly about privacy, and has been implemented to protect against unreasonable searches and seizures by State or Federal law enforcement agencies. This amendment has been changed many times to suit the needs of the people. There are unlawful searches going on every day by sheriffs, police officers, undercover agents and other city officials. Some of those are searching cars, mobile homes, trash cans and even cell phones that are meant to be conducted with consent. The Fourth Amendment states that: The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized. The Fourth Amendment can be broken down into three sections, first is to provide protection for a person, their home and belongings, second, to prohibit unreasonable searches and seizures, and thirdly, warrants must be based on probable cause and specifically describe as to what must be seized. These guidelines set in our U.S. Constitution are constantly challenged and regularly broken. In the case of Spinelli v. United States (1968) agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) were issued a search warrant to assist in uncovering evidence of defendant William Spinelli, who was suspected of conducting illegal gambling activities. FBI agents stated the defendant was known to "local law enforcement officials as a bookmaker." The agents later stated they "had been informed by a confidential informant that William Spinelli is operating a handbook and accepting wagers and disseminating wagering information by means of the telephones." These agents were granted a search warrant fo r Mr. Spinelli's property on the testimony of one single man, with no true evidenc ...

Barbecue vs. Barbeque

Barbecue vs. Barbeque Barbecue vs. Barbeque Barbecue vs. Barbeque By Maeve Maddox We all have our lists of language peeves. Most likely, no two of our lists are the same. The reader whose email prompted this post can’t stand the spelling barbeque: One of my pet hates (I have more than a few) is barbeque†. When I hear that this spellinghas entered into common usage I become uncommonly angry. I have entered it into the NGram and [discovered] the wrong spelling has gradually gained ground and the right spelling is declining. Is this the future of language? I can sympathize with the pain a fellow language lover feels when faced with one of his peeves, but I have to admit that barbeque doesn’t even register as a â€Å"one† on my scale of linguistic suffering. I grew up in a town in which the places specializing in this type of cooking spell it Bar-B-Q on their signs and BBQ on their menus. Barbeque looks fine to me. The first glimmer of barbeque on the Ngram Viewer shows in 1893. BBQ is there as early as 1889. Barbeque begins its rise in the 1960s; BBQ in the 1970s. Barbecue, however, remains far and away the most common spelling in printed books. Something that may have contributed to the popularization of the barbeque spelling could be a false etymology that once made the rounds on the Web and may pre-date email hoaxes. According to this creative explanation, the word derives from a French practice of roasting a goat whole, â€Å"from beard to tail,† i.e., â€Å"barbe (beard) (to) queue (tail). In fact, barbecue entered English as a borrowing from Spanish barbacoa. The word went through various spelling permutations before settling down to the standard spelling of barbecue. The OED shows spellings documented at different dates: Barbacu (1661) Barbicu (1690) Barbecu (1697) Barbicue (1773) In his diaries, George Washington (1732-1799) spelled it both Barbicue and Barbecue. The Spanish got the word from the Arawakan word barbakoa, â€Å"framework of sticks.† This was a raised wood structure that served two functions for the Indians: 1. to sleep on; 2. to cure meat on. The meaning â€Å"an outdoor meal of roasted meat or fish as a social entertainment† is from 1733. The meaning â€Å"a grill for cooking over an open fire† dates from 1931. The verb â€Å"to barbecue† has been in use since 1690, but its first meaning was â€Å"to dry or cure meat.† Now it means â€Å"to broil or roast.† A Google search brings up more hits for barbecue, but barbeque is not far behind: barbecue 13,200,000 barbeque 12,400,000 Bottom line: The standard spelling is barbecue, but barbeque is a recognized North American variant. British speakers, including Australians, are advised to stick to barbecue, but Americans and Canadians have the option to spell it either way: Merriam-Webster and the Oxford Canadian Dictionary of Current English both list barbeque without prejudice. Communication, Conflict and Decision-Making Essay - 1

Communication, Conflict and Decision-Making - Essay Example This essay discusses that in every society, communication is the backbone of professional and social relationships. Communication facilitates the flow of ideas and/or concepts from one given source to the other. The best process of communication needs the existence of a message sender, as well as the receiver. Individuals share the views and ideas through the thriving process of communication. For any communication process to be regarded as thriving, the receiver must comprehend the message content in accordance with the sender’s aim. This means that certain processes of communication lead to unsuccessful ends. Thus, it is worth noting that communication process encounters some hindrances that deter efficient information delivery to the anticipated parties. No matter the effort put in to evade a conflict, it appears to always arise at the worst moments. Thus, ineffective communication leads to a conflict of views or ideas among the parties involved. During communication, confl ict begins from a merely simple flicker of emotions or varies all the way to supportive proof that one presents. While conflict may lead to both positive and negative impacts, this social disagreement may boost maturity of social abilities among the individuals involved. Conflict management involves the application of measures that promote the advancement of positive effects forms a social discord. Efficient conflict management process promotes learning among parties involved and the entire society on how to address incompatible vies in the future.

Survival and Positive Growth during an Economic Downturn Assignment

Survival and Positive Growth during an Economic Downturn - Assignment Example This study will evaluate and arrive at a consensus regarding each of the financial aspects to provide a plan that will help the organization survive during a depression or recession and lead to a positive growth. It is therefore aimed at providing inputs from the financial perspective of business during the economic downturn. The idea of providing inputs or making changes and venturing into new arenas in terms of cost efficiency and management are discussed as they are the need of the hour. The whole economic system functions on the money supply in the market, and this supply is facilitated by the various business enterprises that are the backbone of every economy. To begin with, let us get acquainted with the "Great Depression of the 1930's" and the current economic downturn. The Great Depression was the worldwide economic downturns that lead to widespread poverty and unemployment as businesses failed. Though the exact cause of the Great Depression is unknown, it began with the Stoc k market crash by the end of 1929. A normal change in the business cycle that becomes a short recession can lead to a depression. During the 'The great depression' the construction industry came to a stunning halt in many countries with prices of crops falling by almost 60%, leading to widespread unemployment, as these sectors have few alternative employment options. However, the economy started showing signs of recovery during early 1933 and the economy stabilized thereafter leaving potential room for the growth of the business. A report about recession where the Former US Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan commented "the current global recession will "surely be the longest and deepest" since the 1930s and more government rescue funds are needed to stabilize the U.S. financial system."To stabilize the American banking system and restore normal lending, additional TARP funds will be required," Greenspan said in a speech to the Economic Club of New York. The U.S. Treasury's Trou bled Asset Relief Program designed to help bail out banks has been partially successful". The current recession too had the stock markets crashing with the heavy downturn in the construction industry segment. Greenspan further comments "a housing recovery is a necessary condition for the end of the financial crisis, and said that "the prospect of stable home prices remains many months in the future." The effect of this economic downturn is the huge cut down on spending by corporate houses leading to widespread unemployment. According to the Forbes Digital Company "Working capital management" means a "managerial accounting strategy focusing on maintaining efficient levels of both components of working capital, current assets and current liabilities, in respect to each other. Working capital management ensures a company has sufficient cash flow in order to meet its short-term debt obligations and operating expenses." It is only in the implementation of an effective working capital man agement can companies see the return on investment and better earnings.

The pain does radiate down your buttock to the back of your leg, but you have no pins and needles, loss of motor function or abnormal sensation. You are fed up and worried you might lose your job if you keep taking time off. One of your friends is a doctor and he told you that X rays are useless and you must have an MRI scan to see if you’ve got a slipped disc. You won’t budge unless the A&E doctor agrees to do this. YOU WON’T BE FOBBED OFF! THIRTEEN You are a 58 year old Pakistani man,. You were diagnosed as a diabetic in 1999 and hypertensive in 2001. You take metformin, gliclazide and enalapril.
